Pleiades Coming Up

PLEIADES COMING UP

Lunar Eclipse ... good time to talk about YOU and not THEM.

In the northern hemisphere, oh, it's been summer for quite a while now. Kids home from school. In Texas, a month of days over 100 degrees. Car trips with rest stops that are crowded and unplesant and there's too much junk food. Or not getting a vacation at all.

In most cases, we are spending more time with family -- kids home from school, relatives visiting, trips to see cousins, vacations -- and nerves are on edge. Throw in a Cancer moon, an eclipse and you have a combustible mix along about now. Oh yes, and the Pleiades soon (August 12).

It isn't called The Dog Days of Summer for nothing!!

Try using I-STATEMENTS.

People try and get us in to "control" battles about things we really can't. Try saying what YOU will do or allow, not trying to tell THEM what to do. It shares control and gives options. It 's enforceable, because it's about you. Here are some examples. Share yours!
My car leaves at 2 p.m.
I'll be happy to buy ice cream cones for people who clean up their rooms.
I have lunch with people who are pleasant.
I'll take you to the ___ when I don't have to worry about fighting in the back seat.
in the back seat.
I'll listen when your voice is as calm as mine is.
I keep the toys I have to pick up. You can keep the ones you pick up.
I'll enjoy buying you clothes that I feel are appropriate.
I'll be happy to listen to you as soon as Mom and I finish our conversation.

Give the other person a choice, using statements like the ones above.

Pay particular attention to this with fire and cardinal signs during this time period. Fire signs are ready to explode, and cardinal signs are ... well ... cardinal signs.

Last point. We all know about these statements. They aren't "natural" and usually we read about them and pass them on. The trick is to keep them fresh, and make sure your tone of voice doesn't become mocking or sarcastic. Give them a real chance to work.

Dear Reader,

FROM THE MAILBAG -- Take heart, here in the Dog Days of summer, and be the change you want to see in the world. Talk positive! Get a reading to recharge you. Keep the faith!

The first is a new version of the old story about the lovers who wanted to gift one another but had no money. She had beautiful long hair, and sold it to buy him a gift. He, in turn, gave up something valuable in order to buy her a comb for her beautiful long hair.

THE STORY

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.

He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?'

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying:

'Take good care of your new eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

This is how the human mind often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

LIFE IS A GIFT

Today before you say an unkind word -
Think of someone who can't speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food -
Think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your significant other -
Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life -
Think of someone who went too early to heaven

Before you complain about your children -
Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.

Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or
sweep - Think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the distance you drive -
Think of someone who walks the same distance with their bare feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job -
Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and the old, and those who wish they had your job.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down -
Put a smile on your face and think: Iʼm alive and still around!

Sirius, Dog Days of Summer

Hubble photo of Sirius, the Dog Star, believed to be in the public domain.

This is a serious time astrologically, the Dog Days of Summer, named for the Dog Star, Sirius. . If you're feeling irritable and also lethargic (or dealing with others who are), you aren't alone.

This is the Dog Days of Summer. The Dog Stare, Sirius, is the brightest star besides the sun. This means heat, folks!

Going back to ancient times, the Northern Hemisphere has had to deal with scorching summers.

The ancient Greeks and Romans named this the Dog Days. I was also the time when the Nile flooded - the basin of civilization, so it was a very important time -- then and now.

Here's the story-- Sirius, the Dog Star, is the brightest star besides the sun.

The "Dog Days" are when Sirius rose just before or at the same time as sunrise, but this has shifted somewhat since the precession of the equinoxes over time. This happened to be the heat of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Dog Days used to be considered "an evil time when the seas boiled, wine turned sour, dogs grew mad, and all creatures became languid, causing to man burning fevers, hysterics and frenzies" according to Clavis Calendarium, 1813.

Most of all -- it means HEAT!!

Official dates are:
Old Farmers Almanac says 40 days, July 3 - August 11
The Book of Common Prayer says July 6 - August 17

REMEDIES:

  • Understand what the heat does to us, emotionally, mentally and physically (that's why we have phrases like - chill, and hot under the collar.
  • Stay "cool"
  • If you're tired, don't take a Red Bull, take a nap
  • Don't pressure yourself or others about things that can wait. "Let sleeping dogs lie."
  • Don't get over-heated - mentally, physically or emotionally
  • Stay out of the heat - literally, and also remove yourself from 'heated' situations.
In other words, it's a good time to practice your emotional intelligence skills. Don't allow yourself to be provoked by others who are "losing it."

Here's a good adage my Mom used to say: "Let sleeping dogs lie." This is a good one for the Dog Days. We'll all be a little less stressed and have more energy in about a week or two.

I know here in Dallas it was 105 yesterday. This followed a Full Moon. People get heated up! So slow down, cool down, and take it easy.

I'll be appearing at the Dallas Psychic Fair as always on the first Sunday - August 3rd. See you there -- and bring a friend!
