My 98 Point Facebook Scrabulous Bingo

Scrabulous on Facebook is gone?? Barred from North American users?

This is just the kind of 'surprise' we have been talking about. Note the words in the article: "sudden, but not wholly unexpected."

This is the watchword from now until November, astrologically, for all of us.

And yes, it is a surprise - to the half a million people who played daily.

I'll admit I was one of them. I was playing Scrabulous via Facebook in the early hours of Tuesday, and suddenly something was wrong.

Well, I thought, just temporary. We in the Scrabulous community had been frustrated with a few glitches ... like requesting to host a table and having a game set up with the same person 5 times. But no, this was something serious, for a LOT of people.

From The New York Times, the HALF A MILLION PEOPLE who played Scrabulous daily had the rug abruptly pulled out from under their feet.

I'll admit I'm a Scrabulous fan and spent and hour or two daily, for relaxation. I got on line as usual, and there was a notice - no Scrabulous. I didn't even get to get my final stats on BINGOS.

I played with my sister, my nephew, my niece, and a host of people from all over the world I knew nothing about. Sometimes we chatted, sometimes we just played. Everyone had their own style at Scrab. I know it was a big thrill in my life that just that day I had put down a 98 pt. bingo. The highest one before that was AFFLUENT for 95.

I have a list of my Bingos tacked up on my bulletin board. My stat was slowly building as I learned strategy from people I played with - people from the UK, India, all over the US.

I joined the environment of the Scrabulous community - the controversy over word lists and "cheaters," the 'adult' lists, the people who would write in their requests to host a table - no porn, no chat, just fun, and brain power only.

From the article:

The Calcutta-based brothers who developed Scrabulous bowed to legal pressure and barred North American users from playing the game on Facebook. The demise of Scrabulous was sudden but not wholly unexpected. The game, a favorite time-waster among cubicle dwellers, was created by two brothers in Calcutta. On July 24, Hasbro, which owns the North American rights to Scrabble, sued them for copyright infringement. On Tuesday, the brothers made Scrabulous unavailable to Facebook users in Canada and the United States, citing legal pressure. The backlash was instant. Bloggers denounced Hasbro, howls of protest flooded message boards, and new Facebook groups were created with names like “Down with Hasbro.” Although some people spoke up to defend Hasbro’s rights, most people jeered at the company, calling it everything from “short-sighted” to “technologically in the dark” to “despicable.”

A waste of time? I think one should have some time during a day to "waste."

Be expecting surprises in the coming weeks. eMail me for a reading to prepare for this time period.

Dear Reader,

FROM THE MAILBAG -- Take heart, here in the Dog Days of summer, and be the change you want to see in the world. Talk positive! Get a reading to recharge you. Keep the faith!

The first is a new version of the old story about the lovers who wanted to gift one another but had no money. She had beautiful long hair, and sold it to buy him a gift. He, in turn, gave up something valuable in order to buy her a comb for her beautiful long hair.

THE STORY

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.'

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend.

He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?'

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him.

Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying:

'Take good care of your new eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.'

This is how the human mind often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

LIFE IS A GIFT

Today before you say an unkind word -
Think of someone who can't speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food -
Think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your significant other -
Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life -
Think of someone who went too early to heaven

Before you complain about your children -
Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.

Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or
sweep - Think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the distance you drive -
Think of someone who walks the same distance with their bare feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job -
Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and the old, and those who wish they had your job.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down -
Put a smile on your face and think: Iʼm alive and still around!

Sirius, Dog Days of Summer

Hubble photo of Sirius, the Dog Star, believed to be in the public domain.

This is a serious time astrologically, the Dog Days of Summer, named for the Dog Star, Sirius. . If you're feeling irritable and also lethargic (or dealing with others who are), you aren't alone.

This is the Dog Days of Summer. The Dog Stare, Sirius, is the brightest star besides the sun. This means heat, folks!

Going back to ancient times, the Northern Hemisphere has had to deal with scorching summers.

The ancient Greeks and Romans named this the Dog Days. I was also the time when the Nile flooded - the basin of civilization, so it was a very important time -- then and now.

Here's the story-- Sirius, the Dog Star, is the brightest star besides the sun.

The "Dog Days" are when Sirius rose just before or at the same time as sunrise, but this has shifted somewhat since the precession of the equinoxes over time. This happened to be the heat of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Dog Days used to be considered "an evil time when the seas boiled, wine turned sour, dogs grew mad, and all creatures became languid, causing to man burning fevers, hysterics and frenzies" according to Clavis Calendarium, 1813.

Most of all -- it means HEAT!!

Official dates are:
Old Farmers Almanac says 40 days, July 3 - August 11
The Book of Common Prayer says July 6 - August 17

REMEDIES:

  • Understand what the heat does to us, emotionally, mentally and physically (that's why we have phrases like - chill, and hot under the collar.
  • Stay "cool"
  • If you're tired, don't take a Red Bull, take a nap
  • Don't pressure yourself or others about things that can wait. "Let sleeping dogs lie."
  • Don't get over-heated - mentally, physically or emotionally
  • Stay out of the heat - literally, and also remove yourself from 'heated' situations.
In other words, it's a good time to practice your emotional intelligence skills. Don't allow yourself to be provoked by others who are "losing it."

Here's a good adage my Mom used to say: "Let sleeping dogs lie." This is a good one for the Dog Days. We'll all be a little less stressed and have more energy in about a week or two.

I know here in Dallas it was 105 yesterday. This followed a Full Moon. People get heated up! So slow down, cool down, and take it easy.

Get a reading for specifics about YOUR sun sign. Email me at sdunn@susandunn.cc .

I'll be appearing at the Dallas Psychic Fair as always on the first Sunday - August 3rd. See you there -- and bring a friend!

Everything happens for a reason

From the emailbag:

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don't.
Believe everything happens for a reason. If you
get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it
changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy,
they just promised it would be worth it.

Having your chart done can tell you some of the reasons why things happen - and how to change the things that keep happening you don't like.

There is always free will. It's good to chart the territory so you can make better decisions and I'm here to help.

Susan read every first Sunday at the Dallas Psychic Fair. Come and bring your friends!

Pitt Jolie Twins and Their Chart

Nancy Fenn, reknowned astrologer and the nation's SATURN RETURN EXPERT has done the chart for the Angelina Jolie - Brad Pitt twins. See the chart HERE and Nancy Fenn's interpretation HERE.(or here: http://nancyfenn.blogspot.com/2008/07/accurate-birth-chart-for-jolie-pitt.html )

We are all excited about the birth of Vivienne Marchaline and Knox Leon and wish Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and the family the best!

If you would like your chart done, I will need your date and time of birth, and the location. Getting your chart done will give you crucial information not available from just knowing your sun sign.

For instance, did you know that most people see you as your "rising sign"? So it's important to know what your rising sign is.

The Saturn Return is a very important time in your life. It occurs between the ages of 28-30, again at 58-60, and then again at 88-90. First, Second and Third Saturn Returns are key events in your life you need to prepare for. Nancy Fenn is the leading expert in this area.

The Twins are Here, Under the Sign of the Twins

We are all excited about the birth of Knox Leon and Vivienne Marchaline, Angelina and Brad's new baby twins. And twins born under the sign of twins, Gemini. This is going to be an exciting adventure for the new couple!

I'll be doing their charts later.

Meantime, in today's mailbag -- I do a lot of dating coaching and work with couples. I thought this one, humorous, but has a lot of merit! :-)

Let me know if you'd like a comatibility chart with you and the one you love.

WHAT WOMEN WANT TO HEAR

Wow, I just don't know what to do with this money
we won in the lottery, so why don't you take it to
the mall and see if you can find something to buy
with it.

Hey, how about inviting your mother to spend the
summer with us.

Oh, go ahead and eat that third piece of chocolate
cream pie. If it's one thing I hate it's skinny women.

What luck, they had a special rental rate at the
video store on romance movies.

You know, that Pam Anderson just doesn't seem
to have the brain power that I find so attractive in
a woman.

What a break, I won a prize on the radio station....
tickets to either the super bowl or the opening of
the New York Ballet. I got first choice so pack your
bags for New York, we get to go to the ballet!!!

Who wants to play golf when I can get to see how
good the lawn looks when it's freshly mowed.

Shoot, there's nothing on TV but football games.
Let's go furniture shopping.

Man I tell you, nothing feels better than getting
all spruced up in a suit and tie.

I'm getting a little tired of steak on the grill. How
about a nice quiche?

You know, I think I'd really prefer the four-door
sedan to that impractical Corvette.
