Mars Retrograde and the Stock Market

Calm down, take a break, take is easy

Typically, when there are combinations of Mars, Jupiter and Uranus, we get panic and hysteria and then make impulsive actions that don't play well in the long run.

At least when we aren't aware of what's going on astrologically. Mars is about taking action, but in impulsive ways, and during a Retrograde, our timing can be way off. We suddenly decide to "get this settled once and for all," like end relationships, pop the question, get in or out of the market. When the irrational Uranus moves in around Mars, look out.

Mars Retrograde will continue until January 30, 2008.

Expect turbulence on all fronts - highs and lows. Jupiter will amp this all up. If you get irrational, you'll pop the question when you don't mean it, lose your temper and lose a good romance, or buy high and sell low. It's the crazy urge to DO SOMETHING. Act, and act now. This is not always advisable, and certainly not for a long-term investment philosophy - or anything else in your life!

Jupiter's presence tends to exaggerate everything and give a false sense of urgency.

So hang on for the ride on this one, taking careful consideration about what you do. There's a big urge to act, do something, worse of all -- do ANYTHING. In many cases, the best policy is to wait and see. What we're seeing now in the markets is likely to pass (as it has before, and will again). Avoid mass hysteria, and pay attention to what's going on in your for the long haul.

It's good policy to hold the center when there is panic and hysteria abounding.

And then we have the holidays.

Take it easy, and reassure yourself with a reading. It can stop the madness.

Identity Theft, Astrological Sign

As a public service, I would like to identify people who are at risk for having their identity stolen. I need to study the charts of people this has already happened to. It would be nice to have the date it happened and/or was first discovered. If you’ve had your identity stolen, and would like to help keep this from happening to others, or to learn how to work with this propensity in your chart, please participate in my study by emailing me at semiramis.appiamo@hotmail.com .

In the past I always thought of gratitude as a spontaneous response to the awareness of gifts received, but now I realize that gratitude can also be lived as a discipline. The discipline of gratitude is the explicit effort to acknowledge that all I am and have is given to me as a gift of love, a gift to be celebrated with joy." - Henri J. Nouwen

Thanksgiving - you reap what you sow

From my house to yours,

THE CORN SONG,
from John Greenleaf Whittier

Heap high the farmer's wintry hoard!
Heap high the golden corn!
No richer gift has Autumn poured
From out her lavish horn!

Let other lands, exulting, glean
The apple from the pine,
The orange from its glossy green,
The cluster from the vine;

We better love the hardy gift
Our rugged vales bestow,
To cheer us when the storm shall drift
Our harvest-fields with snow.

Through vales of grass and meads of flowers
Our plows their furrows made,
While on the hills the sun and showers
Of changeful April played.

We dropped the seed o'er hill and plain,
Beneath the sun of May,
And frightened from our sprouting grain
The robber crows away.

All through the long, bright days of June
Its leaves grew green andfair,
And waved in hot midsummer's noon
Its soft and yellow hair.

And now, with Autumn's moonlit eves,
Its harvest-time has come;
We pluck away the frosted leaves,
And bear the treasure home.

Then shame on all the proud and vain
Whose folly laughs to scorn
The blessing of our hardy grain,
Our wealth of golden corn!

Let earth withhold her goodly root,
Let mildew blight the rye,
Give to the worm the orchard's fruit,
The wheat-field to the fly;

But let the good old crop adorn
The hills our fathers trod;
Still let us, for his golden corn,
Send up our thanks to God!

How to Please Your Scorpio Guy

How to please your Scorpio guy?
Oh, how they love the mystery and surprise.
They're also big on appearance, and presentation - like you, and also their food.
Here are some tips:

  • They are the elemental sensual sign - so figs! But you knew that. Fresh figs are best. Fig newtons will do.
  • Not big on sweets.
  • Fruit cake of all things. I've never known a Scorpio who didn't love a dense, packed fruit cake.
  • Dress like you're worthy of him, LOL. Choose deep mysterious royal colors like black, royal purple or dark red.
  • Anything with a hidden center - bacon wrapped chestnuts, deviled eggs, anything stuffed, also sensuous things like raw oysters, grapes and POMEGRANATE. Jelly filled doughnuts, that pound cake with the sour cream in the middle, that molten chocolate cake - and put a little hazelnut in the chocolate. It's best when the little surprise is "hidden" so fried surprises are great.
  • Go to a dark, mysterious place. Dark lighting! Or have your house very dark and mysteriously sensual and romantic. Try black sheets or royal purple silk sheets on the bed.
  • Slightly piquant cheeses like feta and cream cheese.
  • The CLASSIC cheese cake, please; skip all the fruity stuff (unless you can figure how to get it in the middle, LOL)

Mars Retrograde: Energy is Heating Up

Yes, Mars Retrograde is heating things up, for good or for ill. Tempers are more likely to flare, especially if you're a fire sign and you will find people over-reacting all over the place.

A GOOD use of the Mars Retrograde energy is to learn patience and emotional intelligence. When there is energy, there are always many ways to use it. If you are incensed about something, you can do what you can to right a wrong in an assertive fashion, OR you can take it out on someone else, or be aggressive to another person.

This is a time when emotions will be on our sleeves. If you're doing OK, you'll still have to deal with the people who aren't.

It's also a good time to learn there is a season for all things. We are all feeling a push to "solve this once and for all." Not only is there no such thing, but it's also not a wise thing to do. When you push, you get a push BACK.

Learn how to use this energy. Email me for a reading, semiramis.appiamo@hotmail.com .

Combined with the holidays you may feel yourself going into some kind of black hole. Cancers and Scorpios will be more prone to do this, so if your partner is one of those signs, get a reading and check this out. So you can learn how to deal with it.

I'll be available all during the holidays. Please do not hesitate to call me or email me. I'm here to help.

Mars Retrograde lurches forward. Expect some intensity tomorrow, people who can't handle their anger energy. May be especially trying for Scorpio and Leo. Do your best to stay calm. This is the "time will tell" Marsa Retrograde.

On the other hand, moon in Cancer will give us all new perspective on our emotions and relationships.

Conflict and Mars Retrograde

As Mars Retrograde looms on the horizon, it's important to know that different signs have different automatic responses to conflict. These comes from past lives, childhood, or both. For instance, on the downside, a Leo faced with a conflict will dig her feet in and become self-righteous. On the downside, a Scorpio will automatically get out the stinger and lash out.

Learn more about YOUR sign and how you handle conflict in ways that don't help the cause so you can grow in this area and find things that work for you.

This article Workplace Coach: Response to conflict learned at early age gives a good introduction to handling anger and conflict.

TIPS TO HELP

  • Be aware of your emotional patterns.
  • Understand that we co-create what's working and not working with others.
  • Identify what you are feeling (feelings inform you about the importance and meaning of a situation) and then choose your behavior. Recent brain-scan research indicates that naming your feeling when upset (either to yourself or out loud) can get you out of "lizard" mode and back into prefrontal cortex thinking mode (where your odds of successful resolution are greatly enhanced).
  • Get help -- hire a coach or get training in conflict resolution and interpersonal practices.
  • Notice when you slip into your childhood emotional state, then choose to behave as a grownup.
Whatever your sign, there is always free will. That's where your freedom lies!
Coaching is automatically a part of getting a reading. Many of my clients have been getting readings from me for years. For a free mini-reading, email me at semiramis.appiamo@hotmail.com .

Thanksgiving Dinner Etiquette

Thanksgiving Dinner Etiquette- Holiday Manners
How to be a great Thanksgiving Guest, and have a more enjoyable time! It's all about emotional intelligence.

From the article:

The days of dining by plucking fruit from trees and roasting small animals over the fire, eating with fingers, and perhaps fighting with others over the scraps are long gone. Or are they? More and more we swing our car through the drive-in, grab our food from the window, and proceed to eat with our fingers, so perhaps you need a brush-up on the basics of formal – shall we say “civilized” dining – before the great Thanksgiving feast.

Rules of civilized dining evolved because, according to Margaret Visser (“Rituals of Dinner”), “animals are slaughtered and consumed, the guest-host relationship is … a complicated interweaving of the imposition of obligation and the suspension of hostility, and the ordinary table knife is related to actual weapons of war.”

The holidays, and Mars Retrograde will be a good time to practice your emotional intelligence because you will get lots of opportunities. Alert: Especially challenging for fixed signs.

Warren Buffet and a Sign of the Times

Warren Buffet is a Virgo, born 1930 August 30 at 1200PM, Omaha, Nebraska.

He has four planets in earth. His Moon is in Sag. 5 or more planets in Cardinal signs.

With this chart, he is practical, down to earth and concerned with comfort and security in the material sense but also relationships. Very reality oriented. Inspiration and conceptual theorizing don't mean as much to him as concrete facts, reality, tangible results, practicaity, oand the application of theory. Pragmatic. "Does it work?" Can I see, feel, touch, the results. Dependable and reliable, not exiting and people who put on airs and live the fast life would find him dull (and he would find them ridiculous). With so many planets in Cardinal signs, he like to start things. Like Berkshire Hathaway. :-)

Going around the Internet:

Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very interesting aspects of his life:
>>
>> 1. He bought his first share of stock at age 11 and he
>> now regrets that he started too late!
>>
>> 2. He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from
>> delivering newspapers.
>>
>> 3. He still lives in the same small 3-bedroom house in
>> mid-town Omaha that he bought after he got married
>> 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs
>> in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.
>>
>> 4. He drives his own car everywhere and does not have
>> a driver or security people around him.
>>
>> 5. He never travels by private jet, although he owns the
>> world's largest private jet company.
>>
>> 6. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies.
>> He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these
>> companies, giving them goals for the year. He never
>> holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis. He
>> has given his CEO's only two rules:
>>
>> Rule number 1: Do not lose any of your shareholder's money.
>>
>> Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.
>>
>> 7. He does not socialize with the high society crowd.
>> His pastime after he gets home is to make himself
>> some popcorn and watch television.
>>
>> 8. Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone. He does not
>> have a computer on his desk.
>>
>> His advice to young people: "Stay away from
>> credit cards and invest in yourself and remember:
>>
>> A. Money doesn't create man but it is the man who
>> created money.
>>
>> B. Live your life as simple as you can.
>>
>> C. Don't do what others say, just listen to them, but do
>> what you feel is good.
>>
>> D. Don't go on brand names; just wear those things
>> in which you feel comfortable.
>>
>> E. Don't waste your money on unnecessary things.
>>
>> F. It's your life so why give others the chance
>> to rule your life."

The New Job Interview

From today' mailbag:

"Hi. I'm a Scorpio and I just had a terrible job interview. It last forever and I couldn't even figure out what they were getting at. What did any of it have to do with my computer skills. The interviewer mentioned his birthday for some reason and he was a Leo. What do think went wrong? I sure need a reading before the next one. I was lost and really p***** off by the end of it all." -- A Stung Scorpio

Bosses Try New Ways to Skip Misfit Hires: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

Find out how to work the new job interview depending upon your astrological sign. Get a reading before you go and get ahead of the game:

From the article:

With the national unemployment rate low, at 4.7 percent, and the Baby Boom generation heading into retirement, employers from Microsoft Corp. to rural hospitals are worrying about finding enough workers. But companies like Rackspace Managed Hosting are bucking that trend, working hard to find reasons to turn people away.

Rackspace CEO Lanham Napier said, "We'd rather miss a good one than hire a bad one." The 1,900-person computer server hosting company is divided into 18- to 20-person teams. One team is so close, the whole group shows up to help when one member moves into a new home, Napier said. Job interviews at the San Antonio-based company last all day, as interviewers try to rub away fake pleasantness. "They're here for nine or 10 hours," Napier said. "We're very cordial about it. We're not aggressive, but we haven't met a human being yet who has the stamina to BS us all day."

There's a possible downside, however. In a Harvard Business Review article titled "Fool vs. Jerk: Whom Would You Hire?" Tiziana Casciaro of Harvard and Miguel Sousa Lobo of Duke University point out that people generally like people who are similar to them, so hiring for congeniality can limit diversity of opinions. One venture capitalist told the authors that a capable manager he worked with built a team that "had a great time going out for a beer, but the quality of their work was seriously
compromised."

An interview that lasts 10 hours can be stressful and maddening, and they're waiting for you to lose your cool. Find out how to work it with your sign and rising sign. During this Mars Retrograde, be sure you remain calm. Aries and Scorpio are having the worst time with this Retrograde, but being prepared is more than half the battle.

the oryal beatty

Language is a behavior potentially under our control, and a powerful loop. Its how we act upon the world, and how the world acts upon us. Its how we express our thoughts and feelings, and it also influences our thoughts and feelings. This includes what we say to ourselves as well as what others say to us. Barring physical force, language is how we get what we want.

How to Use Mars Retrograde

November and Mars Retrograde

Mars, the god of War, is on the scene for the coming month. In preparation, I read Clausewitz on War, and A History of Warfare, by John Keegan. I also brushed up on my emotional intelligence.

Why? Because war has been around a long time - anger, violence, arguments, conflict - but like any energy, the energy of Mars can also be used well. It's self-protective (we fight to protect ourselves or our loved ones, or our possessions), but if you let this energy get out of hand, or misinterpret or over-react to threats, you miss all the better ways to manifest your warrior spirit.

Mars turns retrograde on November 16. During this time period when Mars is closest to the earth (astronomically), we will get many lessons for our growth.

We will also have the holidays and the political scene, as well as our own relationships and work situations to explore this with. How you experience this transit will depend on how prepared you are. It promises to be a time of surprises, intense extremes. A reading can help you get perspective.

Expect turbulence similar to a Mercury Retrograde, so do your holiday preparations if you can now - travel plans, gift-buying and sending. Get it done before this Mars retrograde. I'll be available all through the holidays for consultations.

The Mars energy can make us more prone to temper tantrums, outbursts, violence, and even cruelty. But it can also bring fighting spirit for good things, bravery and even heroic acts .
Mars energy needs to be understood and modulated. Beware of:
  • Inflammations and self-injuries
  • Addictions rearing their ugly heads
  • All the negative emotions - anger, guilt, worry and fear, and extremes
  • Fights
  • Over-reactions - including rescuing and over-helping
  • Increased stress from hiding Mars energy we don't know how to deal with
  • Intense startups that exhaust us and then peter our (one-week exercise program, the 2-day "diet")
  • Fanaticism and proselytizing
  • Stress, stress, stress - chemicals that exhaust and stress you and related health problems, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually

Remember that unless you trap them, or inflame them, emotions come and go. (Comes from the same word as "move".)

Don't focus on the Mars downside, keep centered, focus on the good, and "just say no" to the emotional rollercoaster. Get a reading to help you focus better on the things that will ease this Retrograde and the good outcomes you want. In other words, focus on not what you want to avoid, but what you want to have happen.

A reading can increase your personal power.

Mars Retrograde in Cancer is a good time to learn more about your emotions. As Terry Lamb says, "Through Cancer we encounter the challenge to keep ourselves emotionally fit, to learn emotional intelligence. When Mars is in retrograde in Cancer, that lesson will come out in spades!"

TIPS FOR COPING:

  • Look at what's right (with you, them and the situation), and keep your face turned toward the Sun
  • Problem-solve immediately, don't resent, don't fester
  • MODERATION. Allow extra time for peace and relaxation - readings, meditate, exercise, get enough sleep, eat right.
  • Turn it off - turn off the TV if it upsets you. Get away from negative people. Monitor the "holidays" so you enjoy them.
  • Learn more about emotional intelligence. This is the perfect opportunity.
